Media Homework

I will be telling you of the importance of technological convergence for instuitutions and audiences based of the media area in which i have stuied.
There has been a vast change in technology over the past few years of how people are now able to view media content. This is known as convergence, where people can now do more things with new methods. An example of this would be using an Iphone to watch movies in a good quality, play games, watch TV and listen to music.
This has had a huge impact in the successful outcome of films. This is becuase people now do not need to pay for watching a movie in the cinemas, as do not have to buy a films DVD or Blue-Ray; as they can are now able to download these onto their personal technology devices. As of this the movies do not get to make a great turnover in the box office which could determine how long the movie will be placed in cinemas.
Institutions are suffering in the distribution field of their not just their movies but other movie which have used this particular institution to get their film viewed by a wider range of people in different countries such as: Working Title joined Universal in order to get their movies out around the world due to the success of a well known company, with films of 'The Boat That Rocked, Four Weddings and A Funeral and Love Actually'.  This is because the generation in which most of their products are aimed at is of a younger audience, which are the main generation to have the new better technology. By this, a movie doesnt get viewed if the movies were to be put out in cinemas meaning that they wouldnt last very long which is very deverstating for these big organisations.
Statistics show that over 50% of the overall budget of from the pre-production, production and post-production has been spent on the distribution of the movie and due to the fact that people can now use Computers, Iphone, Laptops, Mobiles to view media, shows us that a lot of the money has been wasted as well as a lot of time has been spent. The money that had been spent could have been saved and spent more on improving the movie and any other important things that come under production.
The convergence of technology is still rapidly changing at present, this could means that in a few years time the only part that the institutions need to focus on, is the making of the movie for it then to go on and be downloaded. However, if institutions where clever about the way they did this they would still be able to make a profit out of this form of distribution by charging the people to download. If this was done, then the pricing would need to be thought of and reasonable because if it was seen to be too expensive, then the audience/target market may find other ways in which they can get hold of the movie.
There is another way in which the institutions could keep up with the change in convergence by mega-franchising products which are to do with the specific movies. For examplke, Twilight created bed sheets, mug, pencil cases, T-shirts, bags and many more items to keep their audience interested in the movie. If the institution was to carry on doing this type of promotion, then the audience may become more interested in the product and therefore encourage them to download the movie.

Prime Evil (Thursday 5th)

In this essay i will be talking to you about Camera movement/compostiton, Editing, Sound and Mise - en - scene and the way that each of these have been used to show Representation of gender from watching a clip of Prime Evil a number of times.
Camera movement/composition:
When we are firstly introduced to the clip, we see a male and a female who seems to be upset about  something and is being comforted by the man who is also in the shot. This was shown in an Over The Shoulder shot where we were able to get a look at both of the characters. This could represent that woman are in need of comfort and support due to being emotional people.
In another shot, we are positioned at a high angle looking down on one of the characters who appears to be in a whole. This represents gender of the male as being the weaker sex, showing that he is not dominant in this scene which we don't class to be a typical male as being heroic and masculine. We then get to see the woman figure who is placed in the tractor as being the dominant person in this shot as the camera is placed at a low angle medium shot to show her dominance and power at this point where she is fighting off the tiger. This representation of females is not the typical stereotype where woman are the domestic sex doing all the domestic work, but instead fighting off a predictor protecting the male figure who is in the whole.
Point of view shot was used when the male character, who seems to be some sort of leader of the team was sliding down a zipline. This could have been done in order to show that he is looking down towards the ground to see if he could spot the tiger underneath him. It signifies he may be a bit fearful and worried about what is happening, representing his male figure as scared, whereas we usually associate this sort of behaviour as females. Therefore this is not a typical stereotype.
Wide shot also being a long shot at the same time sets part of the location to where the team  appear to be carrying out some sort of mission. It shows the female figure in the distance holding a gun, the camera could have been positioned like this to show that the female is good at that type of work showing she has scared the tiger off rather then being a close up shot to show the relief on her face,  this shot is shown after we get a close up of the males face to show his expression of relief after he just got saved by a woman. The representation of this part of the clip is that the female (Abbi) is not seen as a weak sex due to doing masculine job that are normally done by men.

Editing:
180 degree rule use was during a conversation between a woman and a man. This was done to show the continuity of the conversation keeping the story running smoothly and so that the audience wasn't confused with what was going on. This meant that throughout this scene the eye line was always matching showing the viewers that they were always talking to each other and not anyone else. This could represent men and woman to be equal to one another, where neither sex is more dominant, which was not shown in olden times where men were always the dominant sex no matter what.
Panning was used at the part where the woman was fighting the tiger, this could have been done to keep the audience involved with the action that is taking place at that time. It could have also been done to show part of the characters personality in the sense that she likes to get involved with things that are dangerous and scary. This goes against the stereotype of woman being scared and rely on the men to fight of any danger that occurs as we see for ourselves that she does it all by herself.
Quick cutting was used at the point where the predator  attacked the two characters who are digging the whole. This signifies that there is danger and fear within the members. Cutting the shots quickly together added to the atmosphere  and builds the tension, always keeping us up close with the fight that is going on with the machine and animal, this is seen as objective to the action as the camera isn't place far away from what is going on. Again as mentioned, the stereotype isn't typical to men being the 'heroic' figure but the woman is as she is saving him from being harmed by the tiger.
Wipe Cut  is shown when it cuts from the forest area to somewhere a bit more open where we are able to see more of the location. This is done to keep the fast pace moving and building up the tension as the audience wants to know what is going to happen next. Also by doing this sort of cut it shows to the viewers that there has been a jump from once place to another. Jumps cuts have also been used between characters to establish who they are but at the same time keeping the story going, as well as showing the different parts to the location/setting.
Sound:
The first sound that we are introduced to is a diegetic sound of dialogue. Just after the conversation between the man and woman, the male of that shot looks over to two other characters as if he is hoping to get some sort of advice, support over the situation that has just happened where he is then told by what seems to be the leader to leave it. This represents that it isn't just woman who look for support and advice due to being emotional people, but men do it too which we do not class to be normal.
We are introduced to a barn not too far away from the pervious setting, where again a man and woman are talking, but as we can see it is mainly the female that is doing the speaking. This could represent that she has the authority over what is being said and that she appears to have some sort of power over this male figure.
Non-diegetic sounds are also used in the background music. Most of the background music that is used is relevant to what is going on as it is it alerting the audience that something dangerous is happening, which keeps building up the tension until it reaches its peak where we think that the tiger is going to hurt the male character. It is very deep sort of music again showing the danger that is involved with what the group are doing.
Another non - diegetic sound that we get to here is the special effects (SFX) of the tiger as it is not actually present for the characters to hear, however some people may disagree that it is a diegetic sound. This isn't played when the actually get to see the tiger, but before it has appeared on the screen meaning that this is a non-visual sound.
Mise - en- scene:
There is many different styles of costume that is used in this clip. Where we see three of the characters look very out of place. For example, one of the males in the group is wearing qwerkey coloured type clothing of a hat, jeans, waist coat and a t-shirt. Another character is wearing a suit which could represent he is the head leader and more powerful over the group, which is a typical representation that men were to look good at all time and be the dominant gender.

Role and Responsibility of The Producer

Role and Responsibility of The Producer is -  The first person who has something to do with the overall movie from start to finish. They plan the ideas, choose the characters and director, come up with the budget in which the movie is going to follow whilst in the making, call sheets, locations and other important factors.
They also work with the script writer after coming up with ideas in order to make sure that they come up with an interesting unique story which will gets people attention. Once the film has been made, they then distribute the film to different parts of the world depending on if they have enough money to do so; it is then viewed my a large number of people. While this is happening, they market in significant methods to what the film is about, it then gains popularity for the film which then turns in to profit/turnover.

Thursday 28th April (Hotel Babylon)

Camera Shots/ Angles/ Movement/ Composition:
The first shot that we see is with an Asian man an White man who appear to be engaging in a conversation. The Asian man has less power in this scene due to the fact that he is sitting down,  looking in an upwards direction to the White man who is standing up. He is positioned lower in the frame signifying he doesn't have a lot of authority compared to the other man who is in the scene along side him. The White man was positioned to stand above the Asian man, suggesting he is at a higher level in the work place, in the frame he is seen as tall and towering over the man who is sitting down again showing that he is more powerful. Medium shot were used showing each of the characters face, this is to show their facial expression a long with establishing who they are.
Editing:
When we see all of the workers running around in a panic. The shots have bee cut very quickly together, this could have been done to show that there is a sense of fear within the people. Also by doing this to the scene, it is showing a fast pace where we get to see how the characters behave when in trouble, as well as getting to understand there is a great deal of tension and so we are trying to keep up with what is going on so that we can watch the storyline run smoothly.
Mise - En - Scene:
One of the locations that we get to see as an audience is of the front lounge of the Hotel, which appears to be very modern and quite elegant. Bright colours are used to make it stand out to the viewers as well as being more appealing to the eyes. also by involving bright colours it makes it more eye catching and keeps people looking at what is going on in the clip. We also get the sense of relaxation whilst watching this particular part of the clip as we get to see with a few shots of different people minding their own business. The lighting that was used for this part was natural so we can see clearly what is going on in the scene and get a good look at what the hotel's appearance is, this helps us to recognise the setting in which the whole thing is taking place, which will then help us to notice this type of location again at a later point. The costume in which the characters are wearing is very smart which includes - suites for both the men and woman. This suggests to the audience that they are all professional business people doing their job, as well as giving off the impression of sophistication, elegant and posh.
Sound:
This TV drama is dialogue based, which means the thing which we are able to hear the most if what they are saying, meaning the audience is able to understand the story through words and not just images. Some diegetic sounds that we are able to pick up things like shutters, signifying someone is approaching or a delivery is taking place. Going back to the first shot that we view in the clip of the Asian man and White man we can hear from how the Asian man is speaking, we see the difference in

My Three Targets

These are the targets that i have come up with put in to use throughout my Media lessons while coming up to our exam on May 17th
  1. To gain a wider variety of Media Terminology that is significant
  2. Write more noted on relevant information that will help in the exam
  3. Spend more time researching and looking about things that are to do with Media

Notes on 'Life on Mars'.

Throughout last weeks Thursday lesson, as a class we looked at a short 4-5 minute clip on the 'Life on Mars' around about 3 times so that we were able to make notes on the different things that we noticed such as: camera shots, location, costume, sounds and other media elements, this was to prepare us for the TV drama part of our Examination.
Camera shots:

  • 360 degree track shot - this was used to set the place in where the main character was located, which seems to be a deserted factory site where window were smashed, rubbish was everywhere. The director could have chosen to do this shot to show that the character in this scene had a sense of confusion and disorientated as we are able to see that it is in slow motion.
  • Another shot that we see is different cutting shots - this are used to get closer and closer to the main characters face, were we establish clearly who he is as well as seeing that facial expressions that are present on his face.
  • Also during the above shots they use an extreme close up - again we see the character expression but is gives the audience some thought to what is going on with him and why is this happening.
  • Flash  cut - While the camera was moving closer, they used some sort of quick cut shot to look as though he may be going in and out of a deep sleep. Could have been used to create a flash back which would be appropriate.
  • Over the shoulder - this shot was used further in to the clip we viewed where the main character had now seem other people where he was engaging in a conversation with them. This shows the audience who each character is talking to and we can follow what is going on.
  • Profile shot - This too was used to show that two characters we talking, we were able to get a better shot of the action that was taking place and felt more involved as we were right up close to what was going on.
  • Horizontal Tilt - Used at the start to show that character lay down on the floor, it established who he was and where. It created some confusion again as we were wondering why the man was laying on the floor.
  • Wide shot/ High angle - We got to see the location of where the man had ended up (deserted factory/warehouse). It was also is used in the first shot that we see from the whole clip which is a motorway, again it sets the scene. However they we notice that they are linked together as we get a viewing of a billboard which shows the motorway taking up construction in this empty area yet we had already seen it built as the first shot.
Sound

DIEGETIC
  • The first sound that we hear is sound of the busy cars rushing along the motorway
  • Ambulance which could suggest that there has been an accident that has taken place
  • Dialogue is a diegetic sound as not just the audience but the characters can also hear the sound too. Shows conversations are occurring. We also get to know that the time period has changed as it gets mention by another character in a different scene. We also pick up on the characters accent which sets the scene to where this location is situated (Manchester)
  • Phone ringing in the police station, so give the characters some sort of props to use to make it look more like a police atmosphere.
There are not a lot of diegetic sounds that are used, they could have chosen to do this because they may have felt that non-digetic sounds help to set the atmosphere of what is going on.

NON DIEGETIC

  • Through the flash cut they have a sound that goes along with it which sounds as if it is a hospital machine saving life
  • When the character is going in and out of his deep sleep, he does go in to what seems a flash back of  a little child speaking (Voice off scree). This is could be seen as a diegetic sound however as no other people can hear this sound it is classed as non diegetic.
  • They also used the sound of a hospital heart monitor but we never get to see the actual hospital location itself.
One of the main sounds that we notice that plays while the change in time is taking place, we hear a background song which has some relevance to the whole programme itself as the title is called 'Life on Mars' which is also that songs name. This is non diegetic again as only we as viewers can hear it, but when the change in time has finished they have chosen to make the song from non-digetic to diegetic so now the main character is able to hear it too. If you listen to the lyrics of the song we hear a line which mentions a police which we establish he is through the dialogue which was spoken. This could have been done to show the character is disorientated.

Mise - En - Scene

  • We see that the characters costume has changed from modern time to the past time. Showing that there has been a change in the period of which he is now in. (suite to leather coat and shirt)
  • The cars change in the different shots before and after the period changes. (Jeep to and old fashioned car)
  • Props like mobile are know longer exist however they did in the time where the motorway was already built
  • During the day time so that we use the natural light to view the surroundings as well as the character himself. In the police station they also used the day time however as it is inside it is much more duller, maybe to show the personalities of the people who work in that office.
  • Located in Manchester

Synergy Explanation

SYNERGY:
Where two industries or companies work together to create an overall better outcome of a product, then if they were to work individually working towars the same objective/goal.

MEDIA SYNGERY:
Different Media elements work together to promote products to make megafranchise.

Example:
AOL + Warner Brothers joined forces in the year 2000 in order to promote a world wide successful film of Harry Potter where they created the soundtrack to go with it.

Representation homework

The ways in which the clip from skins represents gender in the following ways: Camera shots - they have used a variety of different shots from medium close up, close up, profile shot, one of the shots are through a gun lens which could suggest that this character can be seen as a troublesome person which we do not pick up on at the beginning. All of these are mostly of maleswhich could suggest that this gender are the more dominant ones throughout the clip. By having the range of shots it keeps the story interesting to the viewers who can pick up on the story line that this clip is to do with the human life. Editing - the editing is done so that the story flows and that the audience can keep up and understand what is going on. They have added clips that are of an old period which we can see are different repesentations of how earth started out. We can also see this be uaae the clips look old as they do not have any colour to it. By editing these types of clips into the overall clip we are able to put an image to what the character seems to be saying at the start. The shots are all edited together smoothly with not sharpe cuts as that is not what this clip is about, by doing this we get to watch carefully to pick up on what it is going to be about. This represents gender as again it is only showing an older teenager of a male sex which shows that this spefic episode will be following men more then it would women. Sound - the main sound that we notice is the speech that the male character is saying throughout the different clips.this isn't the only dialogue we hear, we also we other males talking as well as what appreAs to be the mother of the main character and a teacher. This are not given much to say which could show that this episode is bringing across that main are the main dominant sex. We do however hear the teacher talking with some authority which is seen mainly to be done by men. Also just by having a woman teacher they are showing that not only men have good jobs. Other sounds include background music throughout the monologue and children at the bust stop and in the class room talking and being loud. Mise-en-scene - at first we see that the main character is sitting in e bed room with what appears to be someone sleeping in the bed infront of him. He is only wearing a tablet suggesting thT he may have just worup. It then cuts into a new setting of a kitchen were see we three more characters that make up a family, the dad is in a business suite which could mean he has the better job of the two parents and the main character is bow in a school uniform.

Evaluation Methods

Different Approaches (include)

  • Video - Showing different parts that are relevant to the question that we are answering
  • Text - Writing up you answers to your questions (in the style of a report or presentation)
  • Pictures - Showing a poster with little speech bubbles or arrows coming off of the poster

  • Commentary - Little clips of our opening scene with a voice off screen, or even show the opening scene with the voice off screen.
We have chosen to do commentary. This is because some of us in the group do not like being in front of the camera, therefore we found that it would be easier if we were to do a voice off screen while showing different parts of our product. We can also have a script while recording so that we know the right information to say without getting mixed up, as we wont be on the screen we can make the evaluation answers more detailed to make sure that we answer the questions as much as possible.

Representation of status/class of Cranford.

What do mise-en-scene, use of camera, editing and sound say about the 'social class' of characters?
The setting of this scene is in a country forest where there are little children playing who seem rather dirty - this gives the impression that they are not even involved with a class as they appear to be too young to do any work, but if you have to give them one it would be the working class as they are from a really poor background.
We see that there is a little cottage , inside we are positioned in the kitchen which we see that the furniture is really basic, the colours of the scene are really dull/boring and quite dark.
The two woman are having a conversation about an object that they cherish, we notice when watching that they are wearing scruffy maid type clothing which again do not have much colour to them. They also talk about one of the girls that are helping out in the house who is of big build, but we are unsure to whether this girl is related to one of the older woman in the seen or not.
The dialogue that is spoken is posh and is a diegetic sound as this is the only real sound that we hear throughout the scene. Other words that are heard are bird in the background and a cat - could be telling the audience that this will be shown a bit further in to the clip we watched.
From all of this, i think we pick up that the two ladies in the scene are working class as they do not have anything that really has any value apart from the lace, and seem to do the domestic type job that are to do with looking after the house, however with the girl we see at the beginning, seems to be some sort of helper.
Throughout the scene a range of shots are used - close up, medium close up, wide shots and long shots which are all used in a way to show us the different parts which are relevant to tell the viewers what is going on and to show the facial expressions of the women about the lace that they look after really well.
We also see subjective and objective camera shots to show when we are involved at certain points in the clip so we get idea from both our own and their point of views. It is all edited to be really smooth so that the whole story flows to keep up with what is going on. If it wasn't done like this they could make the audience rather confused with the storyline.
We then get introduced to a new character who we barely see as she is being carried in some sort of transport type box by two men, she speaks to the two women who we see running along the country roads again in a posh tone. This is where we pick up the subjective and objective views. it is hard to pick up on any sort of class because we do not get to see her clearly, but from the way she has people carrying her around and telling them what to do, i think we get a sense that she is from the middle class as it is quite apparent that she is higher than the two ladies we see at the start.

Representation - Note and Script Analysis

Notes
Representation - The ways the media RE-PRESENTS individuals.
Stereotype - Used as the audience will instantly understand 'Visual Shortcuts'. It is repeated frequently that we seem to know them as either normal or true.
Archetype - This is the 'ultimate' stereotype. For example White stiletto wearing, big busted, brainless blonde bimbo.
Counter- Stereotype - A representation that challenges tradition, stereotypical associations.
Representation of women across media
Beauty
Size/Physique
Representation of men across media
Strength
Power
Sexual Attractiveness
Physique
Independent

Eastenders
Stereotypical Father figure (Phil - trying to help his sos, pays the bills, household leader)
Negitive representation
He is quite aggressive
Rough clothing, Dull in colour and his stance is sort of intense.
Its slightly accurate and not fair - showing men a the stronger sex to women
                                                                                   |
less men on the tv drama, more women needed

Life on Mars
Men are the dominant sex throughout - deals with crime
                             |
The police woman is in more frames then the other two police officers
She isnt given anything to say showing that we are the weaker sex of the two.
It fits the stereotype that was around in the 70's that men were the ones to do
most of the stuff in the relationship and woman stay at home doing house work.
The main characters show his authority
Sexually aggressive to women
The ladies are representated as flirtacious people

Tipping the Velvet

The Boat that Rocked - Based in past of a group of people on a boat having trouble with their radio station, and try to find ways in order to get it up and running again so that they can do well as have it carrying on.There are a range of characters throughout the script:
QUENTIN,          ANGUS,
COUNT,             TWATT,
DORMANDY,    SIMON,
GAVIN,               THICK KEVIN,
DAVE,                HAROLD,
BOB,                  NEWS JOHN
and FELICITY.
All the different character have varied roles throughout the script. However, the men are the dominant gender as shown though out. Most of the male characters in the script are represented as a quite Typical, Aggressive, Loud and more.
An example of the men showing an interest at any chance of getting 'laid' not matter what the circumstances.
One of the male characters is shown as seeking sexual attention because the way he talks to the only girl in the script who is a lesbian, and he still tries to ask her if she would sleep with him or if she is a Bisexual.
It also shows that the men like drinking and smoking and having a good time as one of the scenes if them talking about drinking and smoking.
As the whole group work on a radio station, it shows them as being the breadwinner and making the money in the relationship (if any of them have one). Which was one of the main roles that men took on in them times as woman were the weaker sex and had to do the house work.
Felicity in the script only has one or two lines, this could of been done to represent woman as not being able to talk and only the men as that is who dominates it.
There are probably more repesentations through the script, however these were the ones that i was able to notice.

The Bill Analysis

An hour long episode that consised of a storyline over two or three of them until it got concluded.
Aimed at adult viewers as it is to do with a theme of crime and bad things going on that children dont need to pick up on.
At the beinginning after the titles have run, they give you a voice off screen with and image to show what has happened so far in the storyline to get people to pick up and understand what is going on. This is all going on while the programe theme tune is playing in the background.(VERBAL, AURAL AND VISUAL)
The whole episode is pretty much verbal based as they need to make sure that the whole story is explained so that nothing is missed out and leaving people without knowing whats happened.
The dialogue is spoken in the breifing there is between all of the police officers that are dealing with the case at that time (VERBAL)
When a character comforts one of their work partners who seems to be upset by putting his arm on her shoulder (NON VERBAL)
On screen through one of the shots they show part of the story in the pervious episode at the beginning (WRITTEN)
Showing pictures of the people who are involved in the case without being introduced to the characters themselves properly (WRITTEN, VISUAL and NON VERBAL)
Set in a police conference roon (VISUAL)
In a house which the crime is or has taken place (VISUAL)
They are all wearing either policing uniform or suites that show their level of professionalism (VISUAL)
These three above help to set the scene making it more interesting for the watchers.

Used to be a very popular TV drama in the old days
There is a multiple narrative throughout the episode - shown by a few different characters producing their own films and a normal storyline. Peaceful, Action (films) + Father and Son Quality Time together.
In the start they use the dialogue to cut between shots which was also used in Five Days with really quick cuts between each one. With smooth transitions being shown at the same time, again to keep the audience entertained.
The dialogue is in a Newcastle accent of teenagers talking about their films and other people having conversations about certain things. (VERBAL)

They get a shot of the poster which is in chinese style writting to show in younger viewers some part of the storyline without actually showing it through dialogue (WRITTEN)
Also conjoining with this shot they use oriental music to go along with the chiense type theme. (NON DIGETIC)

Five Day Analysis

Throughout analysing the TV drama Five days, we were put in to groups so that we could concerntrate on a specific area. The area in which my group were given was:
Verbal Language
Voice off screen of the captin on the aeroplane - formal

Conversation on the telephone of a woman - again very formal like she is talking to someone professional. However when she gets off the phone she becomes slightly less formal as she is talking to on of her work collegues.

There is another woman who is very business minded person who again is having a conversation on a phone but from what she is saying it could be seen as though it is a relative who on the other side.

The woman who is talking to her mother seems to be  the main character within the whole programe. Speaks in a very common/informal voice.

We notice that they all speak with a London Accent showing you where they are from. The dialogue is linked to cutting between different scenes to make it more interesting to the viewers. For example, When the woman in the house scene asks her mother for the time and it cuts to the first woman on the phone who then answers the question which was asked previously.

By doing this, it is introducing each of the characters individually and their personalities.

Analysis of two British Television Programs

Misfits
This is a TV program that is very rectent as it has only just finished its second series. It is very popular which is aimed at the audience of teenagers as the characters themselves are teenagers. It is also popular as each character has different personalities:
Simon- Invisibility (Geeky)
Nathan - Immortal (Comedian/ Popular)
Kelly - Hear peoples thoughts (Chav)
Curtis - Go back in time (Sporty)
Alisha - Turns men on (Girly)
It is set in a mostly in a communitiy centre as the group are doing community service due to doing some bad things, but along the way they end up saving peoples lives, meaning in other words they are heors.
Throughout the episode the group sell their powers as they think it wil help them to get on with a normal life, in return they get money that they can spend s they wish. There is a man who then goes and buys any of the powers he wants, after he has done this he calls himself Jesus. In the program one of the groups friends gets killed due to Jesus being greedy so the group go to get their powers back, while doing this they kill the Jesus person along the way and use the money he had to get either old or new powers of their choice. It goes on fr just under an hour as it needs to be able to get a whole story across. If it was to short people wouldnt understand what is going on and may stop watching it.
It is clear to us that the Protagonist of the program are the group (main characters) and the Antagonist is Jesus as he minipulates the powers that he gets to make everyone like him. We also notice that many dentotaions and conotations are used throughtut, an example of this is would be when they go to sell their powers in this confind office. Once they have finished getting rid of their powers a bright light apprears, This could just hve been done to show the changing of places but in furthur detail is could seem to be that they are going up to heaven.
Different lighting techniques are used to make the scene bright or darker, but it helps in order to set the atmosphere for the people who are viewing it. They also get used very ell to show the facial expressions at different stages of the program, as well as creating the effect of dramatic, sad etcc (showing emotions of the scene).
Music is also used as either dramatic, happy/ heoric. Again it is done to set the atmosphere but not only that, it helps show the viewers that they may look like ordianry people but with their powers they help to save the country. This is shown in the music by playing theme liked music which fits what is going on in the scene.
Sounds that are used are not a major part of the episode, they really just apprear to be there to make the rogram more interesting and to grabs the watchers attention, As of this you can argue that they are digetic or non-digetic. for example the mobile phone would ring but it is not important to what the people are focusing on. Therefore it is like a background noise to fill in gaps.

Eastenders
This TV program has been on our screens for a very long period of time while also changing, yet it still keeps people very entertained which is a reason why it is very popular to the public viewing. It is aimed at people of any age, as long as they are able to follow the storyline of what is going on throughtout the episodes of the week. Their are a number of cast for this type of program as it is meant to be shown as things that happen in everyday life, so they need to show that it is just an ordinary day of life on a freindly neighbourhood.
It is set in the East End (Walford) of a market square with a community pub and people living all around it. Each scene is in a different part of the square which keeps it interesting as it isnt always the same things happening.
Through the episode, One of the characters (Carol) decides to give in to her self and follow her heart by seeing her departed Son (Billy's) bestfriend Connor. This is because Connor is not very liked within the family as he was part of a shooting a while ago with one of Carol's brother. Therefore she is too uptight to lets things ruin the family relationship, so she keeps her toy boy quite and sneaks around while having some fun.
The other part to the stroy is that both of the pregnant character's, Kat and Ronnie finally get to meet their babys that they have been waiting for. They both have boys but give birth in too completely different ways. Kat gives birth to her baby boy Tommy in the barrrel store of their pub The Queen Vic, While Roonie gives birth ot her son James the normal way, in a hospital.
We are unclear of who is the Protagonist and the Antagonist in this episode as there is not a character who is being slightly evile. Some people may like to think that Carol is the Antagonist as she is deciving her family to go out with someone who is old enough to be her son. Yet people will have their own opinions on this.
The lighing for this program is done in two ways:
In a studio where they can use their own lights to fit the scene which is mostly to do with inside of a builing that could be day time or night time. If it is day time the crew use really big lights to go all round the set so that it gives the wastchers the sense of being during the day. If it is night time they turn off the lights and use small home lights which get placed within the set to make it a night time feeling. It also shows the characters emotions and to some extent their characteristics.
Music that is used is kept to a very miminal as it is only really used for background filling, mostly used within the cafe and the pub to give a sense of  communal, social place to be.
Sounds that are used are digetic as they have something to do with the scene, For example when the punters in the pub are speaking within a scene. This is done again to show the communal/ social place where people can go to have fun and relax while talking to people of the neighbourhood. There arent really any non-digetic sounds as they have made sure that all the sounds they use are appropriate and are only there if they are needed to be.
